Since August 2012, Woodpecker Farm has hosted an Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) riding team. The IEA introduces students in private and public middle and secondary schools (grades 6 -12) to equestrian sports and promotes and improves the quality of equestrian competition and instruction.
The Woodpecker Farm Team has achieved great victories. National Open Individual Rider, Zone 3 Team Champions, Regional Champions.
There is no need for any rider to own a horse. Through the IEA, students have the opportunity to earn scholarships towards their college education through awards in competition and through sportsmanship activities.
Our Woodpecker Farm IEA Teams have been extremely successful since the start of our program up to the national level. Both our high school and middle school teams have qualified for IEA Nationals in recent seasons, as well as individual competitors. We have found that IEA is a wonderful way for both beginner and advanced riders to strengthen their equine knowledge and riding skills in a fun, supportive environment. We are always proud of the level of sportsmanship our riders learn and maintain throughout their IEA career.
Older team members find many leadership opportunities, while younger members find role models and great examples in our more experienced riders. The IEA has also proved to be a great introduction into showing for lower level riders, students without horses, and those without the financial means to show at larger shows. We are very proud of our middle and upper school teams and can’t wait to see more growth and success in the future!
